Accomplishing goals is a part of life but I believe that it becomes even more self satisfying to do so after a major life change. I owe it to myself to reach the goals that I had set for myself before having kids. Before kids, I wanted to finish college, I had one year left before I dropped out. After my Mom had passed away and I became pregnant with my first born, things became stressful. I was so overwhelmed trying to juggle everything, especially my emotions, that I just put school on the back burner. Now, I want to go back and finish that one year, obtain my degree and be able to say that I reached that goal to further myself and my career. Reaching your goals just puts you in a better mind set and you feel like you are taking full advantage of your life. Something like having kids, marriage, divorce and even death does not hold you back from becoming the awesome person that you can be. Obstacles in life should not be able to hold you back from your true potential. When it comes to goals, the goals don’t always have to be major life changers. They could be goals that you want to reach by the end of the day, the month, or even the year. Achieving even the smallest goal makes you feel good and raises your self esteem because it puts your mind a little more at ease and it makes you feel better about yourself. Say you want to try a new recipe you have always wanted to make, drink more water, start and finish a book, watch a new movie, start exercising or just go and get your nails and hair done. Goals don’t have to be big ones to make a difference. For example, I watched this new show “You” on Netflix that everyone had been raving about on Facebook, it was intense and I highly recommend it, but I had found out that it was based on a book. I made it my goal to find the book and read it, which I did and I finished it. Once I had finished the book I felt happy, I hadn’t read anything but a kids book in years. I used to love to read but once I had kids finding time to read seemed like a distant thing in the past. Sure, I may have stayed up way too late at night reading but it was definitely worth it. Completing goals of any kind, no matter how big or how small, will make you feel better and it really lifts you up. Of course, the bigger goals that you achieve the more accomplished you will feel but sometimes the simplest goals can make a bad day into a better one. Something that really helps me reach my goals is that I like to visualize my goals by writing them down. For example, the photo above is an example of some of the goals that I would like to see become real. You can write them in a journal or stick post it notes to a board/wall. Another good idea, is to save pictures to a Pinterest board or to your phone. Save things that you would like to have one day or of things that you would like to make. Even motivational quotes are something that always help to keep my mind focused and on track. Whatever it is that helps you feel better and makes you feel like you are being the best you that you can be is what matters. Take each day one day at a time and if you set your mind up to achieve something, if you work for it, you will be rewarded.
